We’re Josh and Ash, licenced opticians, husband and wife, and founders of MEGANE Elevated Optical in Costa Mesa, just minutes from Newport Beach. Our boutique was born from a shared vision to redefine the eyewear experience through style, precision, and the timeless craftsmanship of Japanese heritage.

As an interracial couple with a global journey, we’ve poured our passion for exceptional eyewear and design into a space that reflects both who we are and what we love, heritage craftsmanship, intentional aesthetics, and personalized service that goes far beyond the ordinary optical store.

Josh Hahn began his career in the eyewear industry in 2013, launching NYBK Eyewear in New York City with a vision of creating clean, modern frames at an accessible price point. Following a partnership with the popular fashion retailer Aland, the brand rapidly expanded beyond the U.S., building shop-in-shop locations across Asia and abroad. This international presence positioned NYBK as a forward-thinking independent label, celebrated for its minimalist design and everyday wearability. The brand’s success laid the foundation for Josh’s next chapter—MEGANE Elevated Optical—where he brings over a decade of experience in design, retail partnerships, and international brand building to create this boutique eyewear destination in Costa Mesa.

“Mega-What?”

If you’ve ever wondered about our name, MEGANE (pronounced meh-gah-neh) is the Japanese word for glasses. It’s our homage to the art of Japanese eyewear, where design and detail are revered, and no frame is ever ordinary.

The name MEGANE reflects our commitment to this philosophy: sourcing only the best artisan frames from globally recognized ateliers who craft with heart, hand, and precision.

You’ll find us in the heart of Costa Mesa, in the thoughtfully curated Paseo 17 shopping plaza on 17th Street. Our boutique is tucked into Suite #109, right between Milligram Coffee & Kitchen and Beauty With A Mission—an inviting stop just a few minutes from the coast of Newport Beach.
