For us, welcoming Matsuda into MEGANE Elevated Optical is exactly that.

Since opening our boutique, we've carefully curated brands that represent the very best of Japanese craftsmanship. Every collection on our shelves has been selected because it offers something meaningful beyond a recognizable name. Matsuda has always been one of those brands we admired, and after months of anticipation, we're proud to finally offer the collection to our community in Costa Mesa and Newport Beach.

A Legacy That Changed Japanese Eyewear

Matsuda traces its roots back to legendary Japanese fashion designer Mitsuhiro Matsuda, whose fashion house began in Tokyo in 1967 before launching the eyewear collection in 1989. Long before "designer eyewear" became a global industry, Matsuda blurred the lines between architecture, fashion, industrial design, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Rather than chasing trends, Matsuda built a philosophy around creating objects that would stand the test of time.

Today, every frame continues to be handcrafted in Sabae, Fukui, Japan, the region responsible for producing many of the world's finest eyewear. Each design can require as many as 250 individual production steps, approximately 71 hours of work, and the expertise of 13 master craftsmen before reaching its final form.
